Sierra Bellows' writing has appeared in The American Scholar, The New York Times, The Greensboro Review, and Gulf Coast, among other publications. She was a recipient of a 2016 Ontario Arts Council Writers’ Work in Progress Grant for a novel.

She was an editor at Virginia Magazine. She worked as a documentary filmmaker in Southeastern Africa, produced short films in Canada, and taught writing in Virginia and Montana. She was a Henry Hoyns Fellow at the University of Virginia, where she received her MFA in fiction. For several years, she was fiction faculty at the Sweet Briar Creative Writing Conferences. And she helped students in Dar es Salaam write university application essays.

She likes to talk about her time living in Malawi, Tanzania, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. She’s also lived in Virginia, New York, Montana, Alberta and Ontario.
