Born in Alberta, Sierra Bellows’ first home was a log cabin with no running water or electricity. Her childhood was spent being home-schooled in Asia. She earned a degree in Cinema from the University of Toronto. Indulging herself in a habit of wandering, Bellows traveled alone through the Asian sub-continent and lived in Africa. In 2001, she co-directed her first hour-long documentary called Lifecycles: A story of AIDS in Malawi. In 2003, she produced a half-hour comedy for television, The Straitjacket Lottery starring Andy Jones. In 2005, she produced Anniversary Present featuring David Alpay and Liane Balaban. Aside from working in film, Bellows has published short fiction in literary journals and articles in Toronto newspapers. In 2004, she won The Norma Epstein Literary Award for her short story about an expatriate family living in Sri Lanka called “New Year’s Eve 1987.”
